French marinas for the french

Completely agree! We've sailed to France regularly for over 35 years now and, whilst many of the loveliest places are now blighted (in our view!) by marinas, it's still a superb destination.

We also have many friends there, and would have to struggle to recall a single occasion where the ordinary chap in the street has been anything other than friendly and extremely helpful.

I feel there is a grudging admiration of the way the French deal with their bureaucracy/prices when they don't agree with them, but perhaps that's something we should copy rather than denigrate.

This is very interestinf info but I am stii a no covinced although I would like to be!I am a signed up registered Residentin Spain and they are quite adamant that IF i SAILED A BOAT HERE TO MOOR HERE PERMANENTLYit would have to be Spanish wwith a phoney survey costing 5OO euros and in the case of aGRP boat a survey every 2 years plus being limited to a distance of twelve miles offshore. Thanks for info I will investigatefurther .I have problems understanding official speak!

In my post about marina costs in Spain the reverse situation exists, the govement want to encourage forign yachts and the prices are related to what a richer european can pay intsead of locals. With a strong pound its cheap here, but we work for Euros.

Sounds like a great idea to me.

I have always found French sailors to be be best hosts or party goers anyway.

But why don't we angle to make UK marina berths only for Frenchies also?
At least they seems prepared to argue the silly sums we seem to accept over this side for parking a boat. Maybe they'd then straighten out UK marina owners?

Once done, we could then revert the rules, kick them out, and all thereafter benefit...........

Without going in to specifics - don't blame the technology for French machines only taking French cards. It is actually due to french LAW and nothing to do with the technology. Remember Cardholder Not present transactions are alow not allowed under french Law.

The technology can cope ut the law is behind. Also has an effect on using French cards abroad - you need special woding and excemptions in the T&C's on a french card to use it.
