I couldn't hear for the shouting /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

There have been some great articles in Motorboat Monthly on this topic in the last few months - take a look at the back issues.

p.s. best not to use caps lock /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

My two grumpy git friends are trying to tell you that it is not good form to enter a message here using all capital letters - intepreted by the cogniscenti as shouting.

Whilst I cannot , personally, offer you any advice, I have carried out a swift Google search using 'French Canals' as search words and discovered the following web site which may be helpful to you:

Will you be entering the boat handling competition at TVR for Bray?? I am on quite good terms with one of the judges...

1. What makes you think I can handle a boat?
2. Wouldn't I need a 'competent crew'?
3. Would I be allowed to use my b*w thr*st*r ?
3. What on earth are you suggesting?
4. I presume you will be there with one of your 'other' clubs?
5. Have I made a big mistake?

That's enough for now, I think /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

PS - Broom ? - VERY unlikely !

Yes indeed.

While you may have slipped through the net at Bray CC, Broom Boats are far more fussy /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I was admiring a passing Broom today. It was going downriver past Petersham.

It had those nice slidey doors on the side and everything.

Ha ha, thats more like the tone we know and love, i thought you were coming down with something there for a minute!!!

1. What makes you think I can handle a boat?
True, no wonder you want to repaint it, cover the scratches?

2. Wouldn't I need a 'competent crew'?
Steady on, does maggie know?

3. Would I be allowed to use my b*w thr*st*r ?
You mean egg wisk? sure why not?

3. What on earth are you suggesting?
Keh?

4. I presume you will be there with one of your 'other' clubs?
Well someone has to make the numbers up.

5. Have I made a big mistake?
Definitely, but try it you never know you might like it?

See you there...

I really must stop turning up late to committee meetings (M25 was closed but thats another story), first No Regrets gets in and now Boatone. You'll be telling me Apollo has been allowed to join next!

Oh wait...he's already a member isn't he, we really do take anyone at BCC /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Yes, thats what clubs kinda need - members?

Problem is that at most events, if you took the committee members + spouses away, there would be very few others left...

Bray needs new blood, I look forward to seeing Tony and Maggie at events, hopefully you may make them more welcome than me?

Don't believe I've ever done anything than make you welcome?

We often disagree over costs but thats nothing personal.

Sorry! - I saw red /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif over the:---

You might want to "tweak" the marketing strategy slightly....? /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Hi,Saltlife, you will by now have noticed that underneath the intercine warfare masquerading as chatroom banter /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif,no one has really answered your question.
The chap you really need to talk to is probably Pheran who should be around at some point or maybe go over to MoBoChat where the subject has been discussed several times before.

Don't listen to him....somebody burnt my house down last night, and I think it's one of this lot.

Tssk...very funny you guys, now c'mon, who was it?

/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I was about to say 'Now back to French Inland Waterways, as I was feeling sorry for Mr CAPSLOCK /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

...underneath the intercine warfare ....

[/ QUOTE ]

The word you want is "internecine," pronounced IN-ter-NEE-sin. It comes from the Latin: "inter" (between, among) and "necare" (to kill). It means a conflict destructive to both sides, or very bloody. We do tend to use it to describe civil wars: "The United States fought a terrible internecine war from 1861 to 1865."

If you've seen "intercine" in headlines, you're reading newspapers that need new editors...and "editor" was originally the Latin word for the sponsor of a gladiatorial combat, which also involved hacking, slashing, amputation, and internecine violence!
