I'm off to Cherbourg on a day trip booze-cruise next week. Is there anything that is a real bargain in French chandlers ? I read a post on here some time ago that said flares (distress type - not trouser type !) were cheaper in France.
Is there anything else, or is there not much difference compared to the UK for most things ?

Accastillage Diffusion (AD) is biggest chandlery chain in France. They have a
branch in Cherbourg just beside the Capitainerie. Visit their site at:
www.accastillage-diffusion.com
If you visit Cherbourg (Chantereyne) they have a free 450 page catalogue.
Some things cheaper, but pound has gone down 10% recently (getting ready
to enter Euroland...didn't you know?)

<font color=blue>Dunno about Cherbourg but in Dunkirk there's a nice bird who does anything after a cheap meal and a few drinks /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

I went to the trouble of importing a handheld vhf from the US (paying £93 all in) then saw the same unit with a different maker's name in a Le Havre Chandler for £90. I was cheezed.

In fact the drop in value of the £ against the € is now nearer 15% and strugling to stay at that. Last March we were being given €1.68 per £1 and now it is just a fraction over €1.40. Those who claim to be in the know say it will drop to about €1.20

It pays sometimes to look in the fishing port areas of the big ports. There they charge non-yottie prices. Look for names like Le Comptoir de la Mer/desPêcheurs/des Marins.
