I have anchoured off Cawsands and Weymouth harbour and just outside Brixham harbour to duck out of the wind. What other roadsteads are easy to enter and free.

We could tell you, but then we'd have to shoot you. Much safer to believe that this part of the world is a death trap, then we natives will always be able to find somewhere to drop the hook.

Lyme Regis, Beer, just east of Straight Point, Babbacombe, Ansteys Cove, Fishcombe, Scabbacombe to name a few, and all dependant on wind direction.

The Dandy Hole (and a couple of other places on the way if you check your charts)
Jennycliffe Bay (east side of Plymouth Sound)
Hope Cove.
Chapmans Pool , (not in a SW wind)

Here's a couple....

Places we've anchored for free are:

Portmellon (Nr Mevagissey. You can see the lay of the sand and rocks by looking at the beach to choose a good spot)
Cawsand bay - lots of wash from passing ships all night.
Lynher - We found ourselves up the Lynher on a falling tide, and dropped the hook before Dandy Hole. It's useful to know that there's another option if you keep an eye on your depth.
Lulworth Cove (pretty crowded, but no British boats when we were there. No light pollution= great stars. One of the highlights of our half way round britain trip. Fun afternoon exploring the caves of starehole by dinghy - in fact, that's where my Avatar pic was taken)
Studland - leave it to the seahorses, I say. Lots of inconsiderate sods planing through the anchorage.
Osbourne Bay IOW
Chichester Harbour. ( Fun watching the sea cadets race around us.)

There are also options around Brixham

Depending upon wind direction, almost anywhere in The Solent, outside of shipping lanes and designated areas plus enumerable anchorages in bays around the IoW.

Hurst Rode, Yarmouth rode, Off Newtown Creek for starters, they're all within a couple of miles of Hurst Narrows, the western approach to The Solent plus Totton and Alum Bays on the IoW.

From what I've seen of Studland it's a tw*t magnet . Spent less than 10minutes there before seeking refuge from them in Poole
