If he had cooked it in the oven, nobody would have noticed. The maggots at least are fresher then the slaughterhouse waste which makes up the other ingredients

I rarely pay more than about a quid for one. Never seen any maggots.

I see the suppliers are hiding behind the old, "return it or we can't do anything" , ploy.... Which is really the, "return it so we can find nothing wrong and destroy the evidence", ploy

I'd take it straight to Environmental Health, if such a place exists these days?

Our local Iceland has Fray Bentos steak and Kidney for £1. Of course he may have had to pay more for Steak, Kidney and Maggots, not being a standard pie. If you don't like the maggots they could always be used for fishing.

Canning process should at least have killed the maggots, so if they were actually swimming then air / oxygen was getting into the tin.

Canning kills maggots. Cooking kills maggots. So one opportunity for Fray Bentos and one for the purchaser. Can't believe they both failed and for trustworthiness my money on Fray Bentos...........
