France & The Netherlands now on Q list

Looks like Belgium or Holland and suck up the quarantine... presume the day sailing back counts as a day isolated? Other than that...
work from home - ok
tesco deliver shopping - ok
don't invite anyone round or go visiting - pita but ok
hour a day exercise - ok

not the end of the world...

assuming we wouldn't get turned away by the Belgians or Dutch...

hour a day exercise - ok..
Sorry, you don't get to pop out for exercise, not when you're self isolating in accordance with The Health Protection (Coronavirus, International Travel) (England) Regulations 2020. Para 4.9 lists the allowable reasons for being outside the place that you're self-isolating. Exercise ain't there

mmm wonder why that is - even in full lockdown people could exercise

Good question. I think the difference is that lockdown was something that was applied to the whole country indiscriminately to reduce a statistical probability of the virus spreading. But self-isolation is applied to specific individuals who are thought to have a higher chance of carrying the virus, to reduce a very tangible risk that they will spread it. Hence tighter measures are appropriate.

I hope that when we're asked to self-isolate, we're also told exactly what that means, because I'm sure many will assume it's the same as lockdown. I'm only being annoyingly pedantic because I'm geeky enough to read the regs.

Well I am off with a few other boats from our club tomorrow ( sunday) up the east coast.
Dammned covid. We were supposed to be doing the Dutch canals !!
France is out so we cannot head to Cherbourg via the s side of the Channel
When we realised that we could only sail UK we suddenly found our options for a 2 week holiday in company severely limited,
We did Ramsgate 3 weeks ago( great weekend) Dover is a ferry terminal, Brighton is a dump, Eastbourne is a housing estate & the south coast is expensive, probably overcrowded, lacking in SD in some of the bars.
So we looked at other places- St Kats & Limehouse involve motoring up the Thames & one of our group said the area is a bit deserted & St Kats is a bit !!!! So that is out.
The Medway is just a commercial ditch-- Is Chatham open? Harty Ferry is a mud hole- went there in the 70's so no need to go again.
I have just been to Burham in my car to get my prescription so I do not fancy sailing that ditch.
We went Brightlingsea 4 weeks ago & it is only a few miles from Bradwell
Maldon is where some of us shop, so no point in sailing there
So that leaves the Orwell.
Done Shotley ( nothing there)3 times already this year, SYH (ditto) Ipswich (not impressed)
The Deben & Aldborough are out as we want marinas & anchoring is out
You have all seen the post re Southwold recently & it is broken down mess, nowhere near the town, so on its own it is nothing.
That leaves Lowestoft so we are going there
But then there is Wells & the tides are naff & 2 of our boats are deep draft & it is neaps- Pity because we all fancied it.
So next stop Grimsby & Hull but wind is going to go north & V windy & it is 105 Miles from L' sft
We did want to do Scarborough & Whitby but chances are pretty much zero because of weather
So all in all the east coast is great for 2 day trips, but a pretty drab place for a 14 day holiday.

Say you return from Holland to the UK.
WHO WOULD KNOW?
Well, at many ports VTS would know (or at least, would know you'd come from a direction requiring them to enquire), and given the increasing numbers of yachts with AIS transponders. anyone who wants to know would know. I'd put it in the category of things you're likely but not certain to get away with, but where failing to get away with it will have substantial consequences.

If I were to sail from the Orwell towards Holland, Belgium, France or the South Coast, I would be leaving in the same direction.

More boats have AIS, but you're not obliged to have it switched on.
I am not the most tech savvy sailor, but on my transceiver there's a switch RX and RX/TX.
It's not rocket science.

And as I said, it's in the category of "likely to get away with". Further south you wouldn't - radar covers the straits of Dover like a blanket!

OK, if that's your view of the E. Coast, you're welcome to leave it to those of us who find it a most enjoyable place to sail.
Could never do that- have been sailing the area since 1978 and even after uk circumnavigations, numerous trips to Biscay, Hollandand the like, one always enjoys coming back to the Thames estuary. Cannot beat the Blackwater.
It is just not where one wants to go for 14 days hols when one can do all the rest of it over weekends. Lowestoft is only 11 hours on a good day and Dover is rarely more than 10

I suspect that might be part of the problem. Especially as the marinas must be ones you haven't visited in the last 50 years, or in places that you ever go shopping.

I'm glad you enjoyed Ramsgate, and hope you enjoy Lowestoft.
Well the 14 day holiday is over. We had hoped to get to Scarborough but weather stopped that so Lowestoft was as far north as we got. We enjoyed both Lowestoft & Ramsgate . However, there is very little to inspire one at Shotley. Brightlingsea has little more than a ferry ride & a very long walf to a chippy ( Winkeys??) . Ipswich is not very inspiring (unless you like Issacs bar with its loads of half dressed females) I have not changed my opinion of the Medway & Chatham marina is nice, but overpriced. I got bored with the Museum so left early ( I did not get to see the rope works- perhaps another time)
Amazing how some places seem to have absolutely no idea of social distancing & some take it very responsibly.

A propos of nothing...

This afternoon, my other half flew from Nantes to Stansted.
At Stansted Airport, she got off the plane and used the self-checkout (biometric passports) to clear immigration and was on her merry way.
She was stopped/questioned by NO-ONE.

Quarantine? What quarantine?

blast - was heading Holland-wards in a couple of weeks... now have run out of destinations. Channel Islands (bit of a schlep though as only have 2 weeks off)
Check directly with marinas over in the Channel Islands because a friend thought of going there a couple of weeks ago and the CI were not really encouraging visitors.

Edit:- sorry just seen the response from KOEKETIENNE saying much the same thing but more informed.

Can you explain why she needed to be questioned? the passport shows where she came from & anyone with an ounce of common sense knows that they are obliged to self isolate on return to UK having visited a list of destinations. The authorities will know that she has arrived & her address. Clearly there is a matter of common sense & trust.
Are you suggesting that she will not self isolate? Perhaps she is going to pop round to see her dad & give you a dose . -- We will miss you on the forum:eek::eek:
EDIT
Sorry I mis-read other half as daughter. Perhaps your wife will give you a dose instead. But why did she not fill in the form 48 hours in advance of return? Simple enough & most know it should be done. Is there any reason she decided not to?
