i want to bring a specialist sewing machine from Jersey to the UK. Can anyone recommend a good, careful, courier please ?

The alternative is to hop on a ferry and have a day out , and bring it back myself :)

I'm flying to Jersey in May but I think that a sewing machine might tip me over my baggage allowance. It looks as if the main problem is how well it is packed, which you may have to take on trust, but the ferry option sounds appealing.

Having spent December working for Royal Mail I can't see how any delivery company can be described as 'careful'.

A ferry trip or a visit in the summer to test out the new bilge pump.

You might be better arranging for it to be delivered to one of the shipping companies in St Helier such as Condor logistics or Ferryspeed and then pick it up from Portsmouth at the other end. Might not get thrown around so much from one courier van to the next that way. Don't forget all the customs rigmarole with VAT on import etc.

Aaaargh ! DHL want £120 for a 26kg sewing machine from Jersey to the UK. !

Tks for advice. Further investigation needed. I might take up Condor's offer of 1 free night in a Jersey hotel (no doubt bring your own biscuits).
