We love Fowey and we're regular visitors. This thread isn't about the moorings fees; that's already been done, it's about the cost of stuff in the town. Everything is Chelsea-by-the-Sea prices. We were in Fowey Fish recently and saw a bottle of Chardonnay, a nice bottle of wine which I would expect to pay £12 to £14 for in Waitrose. It was £25. The bread shop (Quay Lane bread shop?) does really nice bread but £3.50 for a loaf. I don't mind paying a bit extra in Fowey for stuff; it is an out of the way place and transport costs will be higher etc, fair enough, but I can't stand the current pricing strategy. So we buy all of our stuff at Waitrose, provision the boat fully an then head to Fowey. It's bonkers, we'd like to support the town but they need to be sensible in their pricing otherwise it's a Lose:Lose.
Cawsand, Polruan and Newton Ferrers all have sensible local shops which I am pleased to patronise. They've got it right.
