Yes but this dinghy is using a fathead sail which is not the same as the early quad genoasNot a new idea, J class and other large yachts used quadrilateral jibs and looked a lot more elegant for it.
It might catch on for these 18-footer skiffs: I can see that it adds area to the jib, and when planing with the bow a few feet out of the water the top-plate will generate more lift. It will only ever catch on for skiffs though, as they sail almost everywhere, including downwind, on a close reach.gotta hand it to those skiff wallahs
