More information here http://www.keeptalkinggreece.com/2016/08/17/aegina-video-dramatic-moments-after-speed-boat-rams-tourist-boat-with-20-on-board/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+KeepTalkingGreece+%28Keep+Talking+Greece%29 with a video immediately after the tourist boat sank.

Apparently the speedboat driver was 78 years old, looking at the picture of the speedboat his view might have been severely restricted by the canopy and what look like dirty windows. Surprisingly little damage to the hull though.....

It seems to me that the boat in question, described as a speedboat, is misleading, it is more of a mobo with accommodation, rather than a 15ft open speedboat, much bigger and heavier!
cheers for the update Tony.

Thought you might be interested in an update. It appears that the 77-year old skipper of the speedboat has now been arrested and remanded in custody. Prior to the recent court hearing he was confined at home, although police had confiscated his boat licence and his car licence.

However, he is currently only charged with 'failing to alert the authorities even though he knew that lives were in danger'. He is also apparently accused of attempting to evade capture after the incident, he turned himself in two and a half hours after the incident. He claimed he has health issues and his own boat was damaged which is why he could not stop to help. He apparently did not call the coastguard to report the incident (as required by Greek law) but he did call his friends to help him tow his boat back in.

So far there is no new information concerning responsibility for the incident, though doubtless that will emerge in time. Unfortunately the captain of the tourist boat died in the incident so prosecutors will have to rely on the witness statements of the passengers to establish what happened.

From what i have heard and the boat is in our yard .That the Port Police / coastguard had no fuel to attend the incident until after two local garages donated 150 lt each.
It now seems as if the charges against the speed boat owner have been raised to manslaughter. There remain a doubt about who was driving the boat as there were no fingerprints of the owner in the wheel, but in the throttle.

Something not quite right with things at the moment.
