Found the leak. Help needed.....

Thanks for replying. It's oil that is leaking not water. I have found a pic of the D4-260 and attcahed it and have outlined the area which has the leak in red. On my engines though the circular plate with the bolts is green not grey. Best I can do I'm afraid.

see the black pipe with the three clips, situated above the grey bit as you call it, that will contain coolant, remove the filler cap on the header tank and check if the fluid in there is green, like the drip you have, if it is I reckon one or all of those clips need tightening.

OK, to clarify re the service, the cost was actually £2200 (sorry, got carried away  ) and included plenty of parts. This also included antifouling of the legs. The total labour was £750 plus vat and the remainder parts.

As to the leak. I cleaned it up prior to taking her out today and this evening there is no new oil in the bilge area. I will check again next week and see if she is still dry.

Update

Spoken with Volspec today who, from my description, believe if the oil is not leaking from somewhere else and dripping onto the bell housing then it is likelya the crankshaft seal. They say this would mean removing the outdrive and sliding the engine forward on it's mounts. They have estimated 4 man days work  They also stated this will be the first crank shaft seal leak on a D series engine that they have known (if it does indeed turn out to be this).

The other surprising thing is they have told me that the service carried out in May at a cost of £2200 was an outdrive service only. (I only looked at the summary sheet and was done prior to my ownership). Ouch! That's seems one heck of a lot for an outdrive service.

Further monitoring and inspection will now be required before agreeing to the engine shift.
