I bought a set of Musto's about ten years ago - I must say how pleased I have been with them. However, they are now in need of re-proofing - does anyone know how to go about this?
You could ask Musto themselves if they have a re-proofing service, or failing that you can get a proofing aerosol spray for tents from your local camping shop.
I tried re-proofing my old set a couple of years back but it really didn't work - I think it's more fundemental than just the surface coating.
I, too, was delighted with my Musto's so I bit the bullet and bought another set. Yes, it was nearly 400 quid and that hurt a lot, but then again that's only 40 quid a year which is only 1-2 quid for each sailing outing..... Andlooking at the weather right now, I'd say that's a bargin.
Guy Cotton I believe make a range of waterproof clothing which I believe is used by Fishermen. I understand that it is completely waterproof although it does not have the warmth associated with foul weather gear. Has anyone had any experience of using the Guy Cotton waterproofs for Sailing?
Yup. Guy Cotton gear is great. I have two sets that are 20 years old and are still completely waterproof.
As you say, they dont have the warmth associated with more modern gear and don't breathe.
One of my crew has a set that he bought when we were both nippers in 1978 and still uses them; another has recently bought a set of GC trousers from the local fishermans co-op and they look much more like modern sailing gear than fish-gutter's spec! They were really good value too.
Mine are 20+ years old, trousers no longer waterproof, but still do for all the cold, windy days, when waterproofness not required. I'd like to know where to get a set of new ones, because I didn't see any in Yarmouth Stores, Plymouth, where I bought the original set.
