Remember <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.ybw.com/cgi-bin/forums/showflat.pl?Cat=&Board=ym&Number=599614&page=&view=&sb=&o=&vc=1> THIS POST? </A>. The idea was to get as many forumites as possible to drink a toast at 2000UTC on 11th December.

So who is up for a night at the Folly - that's near Cowes, for those who don't know the Solent?

The 18th could be an alternative option.

In addition, or instead, a sail and get together on Boxing Day per Becky's suggestion, may be more appealling.

For us it will depend on the weather, invitations as yet unreceived, and other family considerations.

Great idea, but the 18th would be better for us, as poor Cornish Maid is having her keel bolts replaced and we probably won't be back in the water by then. We need a spring to get away from Dell Quay, and a good one is on the weekend of 11th. Then we need the heater sorted, otherwise I will freeze. However see how the idea develops

I'm up for it, can only make 18th though.
Should book a table at the Folly though - this Saturday the Folly was packed just like a summer evening - seems all the locals come out to play in the winter. There were only about 10 yachts on the pontoons.
The taxi won't be running either, they finished this weekend.

Unfortianly I will be up in Glen Coe in this strange country called Scotland on that date for a weeks holiday.
18th should be ok as I might be heading back to Devon via Southampton.

ps do i need to start applying to the scottish parliment for a visa or should I have started aplleying 6 months ago?

There is a way round the visa requirements.. you need to go Holyrood .. storm the debating chamber (before they break for Christmas) and wearing a kilt and nothing else eat a pound of cold haggis washing it down with a pint of your favourite single malt... These acts will demonstrate your adoration for all things Scots and to further your cause you can recite reams of Burns too.. However this will probably only get you as far as Edinburgh if you wish to venture into the Gaelic speaking Highlands things get a lot more complicated depending on whether the jury are made up of Campbells or Macdonalds.. If you are unlucky the Gaelic Jury will request that you make 12 circuits of Culloden battle fields thrashing yourself with gorse branches and then perform druidic rights at Clava Cairns..

Alternatively, present yourself at the border with England (the road running NW from Berwick on Tweed is a favoured route for this, so long as you remember that we're still meant to be at war with Russia) with a Brixton Briefcase - type ghetto blaster. When you reach passport control, start playing Pink Floyd's "Several species of small furry animals, gathered together in a cave and grooving with a Pict" from the "Ummagumma" album on your ghetto blaster, and dance around the border guard, moaning incoherently. This confuses the simple soul and he will wave you through with a smile (well, a surly grimace, but you get the idea).

Always works for me, though playing the Floyd (and from an early album, at that)is an indicator of my rapidly increasing years.

there must be a simpler way which avoids all this embarassment (to us) ... perhaps he can slip us a hundred or two and it'll be passed onto the local consulate down here (me) who'll pass a good word on to Jack McC or maybe not if we don't feel up to it ...

mmmm well I think on reflection and a vague memory of another thread which I found slightly disturbing I seem to remember Claymore's invite to meet him at the end of Kilmelford Pier suitably atired.. there was something about his post that made me feel just slightly uneasy so I think I will settle for toasting you all from the comfort of a cottage in the cotswolds...
