Forum Burgee 2017

Just took ours down. After 2286 miles, it is looking somewhat worse for wear. The white surrounding cord held well, the fabric not so much. The stitching is still in good shape, but the blue colour faded very quickly and it finally shredded itself while slapping the tip against the shroud. The black polyester cord which I felt was a bit flimsy turned out to be fine too.

Unfortunately I'm not sure anyone recognized it - there clearly isn't enough of you sailing out here!

Anyhow, nice to see that the rope and other bits have survived the beating.

Seriously, the first batch that I did had an bit of a colour run issue that was soon resolved. You might have had an early one. I'm happy to send you a replacement if you PM me your address.

In the Middle Ages, I think alum was used to fix dye colours. The supply of alum to England was cut (by papal demand, I think, in retribution for Henry VIII divorcing Catherine of Aragon) and the English discovered that urine had a similar effect.

Have you tried weeing on them? :o

Ahh! My bad.

Apparently urine, together with seaweed, was used to extract alum from rocks in Yorkshire, and not as an alternative to alum. so my earlier suggestion probably won't work.

Still nothing lost in trying..... :D

The Fabsil used on sprayhoods etc. supposedly has some UV resistant components. It is applied by brush or roller though. Would give that a try. I've done our canvas with it and ran out after half of the bimini, so can compare. The treated surface area is much cleaner as it repels the red Sahara dust flying around here regularly.

PM received. Yours was definitely from the first batch so happy to send you another. Will be interested to see how the next one fares, particularly if you can give it a brush with some fabsil or wee!
 
Going to be using the Forum Burgee for the first time this season. I have treated it with a product called Liquiproof. UV and Waterproof. Will report back end of season to see if it's held colour etc.
