On the boat we sleep in the forepeak (with infill) which means the berth is about 2ft wide at the foot and 7 foot wide at the head. We use a duvet to sleep under which we have shaped at the foot. Underneath (on top of the cushions) we just use an opened out sleeping bag to sleep on. It tends to get a bit rucked up because it's not wide enough to tuck under the cushions at the head end. The sleeping bag is swiftly coming to the end of its life.
Do I just go and buy another cheap sleeping bag to use as the bottom layer or has anyone got a better solution?
PS I like to stick my feet out from under the duvet so ditching the duvet and getting a fancy shaped sleeping bag is a non-starter.

We have 2" memory foam shaped overlay on the berth cushions, with shaped fleece blanket, shaped poplin sheet with elasticated foot to tuck under cushion, and finally shaped duvet. In winter we may used fleece throw over. All made by the wife.

Why not shape another light duvet to fit.

I have a fitted sheet (standard, not special boat fitted) which just stretches around the mattress at the head end, and is then tucked under the foot end like a normal sheet.

I suppose my forepeak must be a little narrower than yours, maybe you can't get 7 foot fitted sheets.

I have the £11 fitted quilted mattress topper from Tesco and find it perfectly comfortable. Two of them sewn together and shaped to fit with elastic right roundwould suit.

Thanks for suggestions. I think we need more than just a sheet because there are four cushions making up the berth so it needs something to 'insulate' us from the joins. Had considered a thin memory foam topper but worried it could be too hot. A thin duvet might serve but I'd be worried about it rucking up as they are not quilted quite as tightly as, say, a sleeping bag.
At the moment the Tesco mattress topper (probably reshaped) and a shaped sheet is looking favourite, especially as it doesn't look expensive.

+1
Having tried a few different things over the years, I now use bog standard duvets, under, over , over again, over over if really cold midwinter.
easy to air, machine wash covers and or innards, sorted. V snug too. Esp as there is generous ammount at the cold footy end in winter..
