As you may know i,am currently putting together a 23ft fisher at the moment,it,s engine (supplied with boat and untried) is a FSD Ford 2.5 diesel.I,ve tried all day today to start the thing but no joy.I have bleed all the fuel lines and have bieng pumping fuel back into tank with it,s self primer so don,t think it,s that, also the electric stop vavve seems to operate ok,.
The engine timing belt was inspected before turning over and seemed brand new and unused.......the engine semms to be blowing through the intake and actualy pressurized it when i choked the engine (hand over intake).
Could this be a syptom of the timing belt bieng fitted wrong ie valves opening at wrong time or any other suggestions.......

Bit hackeded of with it tonight .....least i didn,t ****swear!!!

Trying to start it backwards by any chance? check the polarity to the starter motor....

Blocked exhaust? (exhaust shut off valve?)

check timing marks first, make sure the heater plugs are working, (they should glow) i take it that the engine was laid up properly, but just incase check valve operation, just in case they're a bit sticky, (and there's no mice in the exhaust)

the engine should run clockwise when viewed from the front but unless you've got the wrong starter, or it's round the wrong way, that shouldn't cause a problem.

these motors are generally reliable, so pound to a pinch it's a simple fault.

good luck, steve.

Try a long squirt of Easy Start down the air intake whilst cranking (but put your fag out first!) , that stuff will just about wake the dead, if it will not run briefly on that there is probably a timing problem.
