Force 10 gas cooker

The cooker was fitted in 2007 when the boat was built.

It’s a 3 burner unit and looks like either a 63356 or a 63358, but could easily be an earlier model. The boat is 100miles away so I can’t easily check at the moment.

The spark ignition has stopped working on the large front burner, although it still works on the two smaller rear units.

I’ve replaced the battery.

What’s likely to be the problem?

If I need parts, can get them in the UK?

I don’t seem to be able to find any kind of maintenance manual online, is one available?

If the spark unit still works then it can only be the connection to the individual burner - loose/broken wire or corroded connection?

The spark unit is easily accessed at the back of the cooker near the base.
You can disconnect the high voltage wires (spade terminals) and swap them around. See if the same burner doesn't spark. (Unlikely)
You'll probably find one of the other burners doesn't spark. Replacement spark units were available from Calor Gas Centre in Southampton. It doesn't matter if you get the 6, 5 burner or 3 burner unit. You'll just have unused terminals.

The spark ignition box can be bought to replace the original unit although the Socal site lists a Plastimo one under Force 10 spares. I refurbished an old 4 x burner model and had to use newer parts as the old stuff is not made anymore. I had the burners and ignition units sent from the Canadian manufacturer to Bahrain, where I was based at the time, the point being that they have parts. I called them and discussed the model and they offered good advice.

However, before you go down this road check out the UK domestic market for spark ignitors as a lot of stuff is very similar, maybe even identical and could fit.

Beware of tackling any job below the sheet of SS that carries the burners. The burners have to be removed which entails removing 2 small screws and then 2 x 5mm sleeve nuts per burner. The local cooker expert tells me he has never go one apart short of drilling things out on any stove that is more than 2 years old.

I am going to bite the bullet and repair mine which is about 8 years old but will need the following.

2 x Solenoid (Valve) 89306-$20.00 ea
1 x Flame spreader small 892223 - $20.00 ea
10 x Mounting studs 89201 - $2.00 ea
2 x Thermocouple 89216 - $30.00 ea
3 x Burner housing small 89224 - $20.00 ea
1 x Burner housing large 89220 - $25.00 ea
3 x Burner cup gasket, small 89310 - $5.00 ea
1 x Burner cup gasket, large 89311 - $5.00 ea
2 x Thermocouple nut 89202 - $2.00 ea
2 x Sparker hold down clip 89211 - $2.00 ea

Thanks for the TQA, it doesn't sound that promising, my stove is about the same age as yours.
I'm in email contact with Force 10 in Canada and the have suggested some test I can do, but it'll be a couple of weeks before I can get back to the boat.
The large from burner is showing signs that the thermocouple/ flame failure solenoid is on it's way out, I have to hold the gas on for much longer than I have to for the other burners.
If it's going to be a lot of work and money to fix it, perhaps it's time to fix it with anew one.
