The impeller may have dropped one or more blades which would severely affect the pumping performance...I'd be inclined to replace the whole unit, often not much more than the pump. But I'll say it again, look at the Tecma.

checked both macerators and neither have blades missing both spin fine when checked off the toilet, don't really want to go to the expense of new toilets as just spent a fortune buying the bloody boat

jimmy yes I think you are correct I don't think it does work on a vacuum after all it works as you say chops it up then pushes it down the discharge pipe

previous owner would not matter as I have REPLACED ALL THE PIPES with new none odour pipes costing me nearly £400 just for the pipe so all the pipes from the seacocks to the holding tank to the back of the toilet are brand new and only been used a couple of times

it seems like the macerator pump just does not have the power to push the poo around the pipes I am starting to think new macerators may be required but its strange they are both knackered at the same time but everything else is new except for the macerators themselves

I have a problem with my Jabsco macerator not priming properly, but I have 38mm bog to tank to macerator and 19mm exit from there. I have bought a service kit for about £35 which contains a 'wear plate' which presumably (hopefully!) is worn and why it won't prime. Maybe your macerator has one?

I am thinking now that I would be better of with 38mm pipe to the bog and do away with the 19mm stuff????????????

yes water comes in no problem inlet seacocks open and water flowing into the toilet perfect just wont discharge properly, it will shift just water but anything more and it really struggles both toilets are the same

Hmm. Good water flow = impeller is ok. If both toilets are the same, either both the macerator assemblies have gone back together in the wrong order when you serviced them, or there's a common blockage in the output pipe. Is the diverter valve that selects sea or tank for the output correctly set?

The macerator pump will have stainless blades and an impeller. You'll need to take it apart to check the impeller, I'd put money on that being your problem.

I've had similar problems with Jabsco units, which I'm sure yours is, and is very common. I've not been able to keep mine going for more than about six months after a service , and the small pipe from the macerator keeps blocking with deposits.

I've also had the macerator seizing with deposit building up in it.

These deposits are uric deposits, I'm told, from, well guess!

I've discussed with Lee Sanitation, who are very helpful. I've been using their descaler, based on phosphoric acid, and is working well. I use it about once a month, and have not had any problems for nearly a year now. Contents of bowl sucked out very quickly and deposited in holding tank. Might worth a try.

That said, I've heard of other owners regularly removing and exercising that black output hose to break up and flush out the deposits that build up on the inside of it.

Shawn, can't really help with your problem, but you should be using single ply paper from Lee Sanitation. We use this in our vacuflush heads.

Almost certainly Jimmy cos they're not flushing enough fresh/seawater through when they flush. Jut emptying the bowl and no more will leave the pee in the pipe, which then causes the problem.

I am unsure how it works but I do not hear the bladed chopper going round on fill only on empty

in this picture below you cant see it but inside the white cap on the end of the picture their is a shaft that comes out the unit then their is a bladed chopper attached to this shaft
I don't know where the impeller will be possibly inside the unit as stated

I still cant help thinking I read in the manual that they work like an aeroplane loo on vacuum

Just an alternative thought - are you actually getting 12 volts to the pump motor? Does it stay at 12 volts when you flush?

I'll second that. Never had a problem with the Tecma toilets on my boat and I regularly have teenagers onboard. Judging by our toilet roll consumption, they use a lot more than 5 sheets every time

If they are seawater then there has to be an impeller somewhere that pulls the water in. I think we need to try and id your specific unit. Does it look like this:

Ditch it and replace with the bog-standard (ho ho) Jabsco hand-pump job? Perhaps not quite 100% un-blockable, but they're pretty good on that front and there's not much to go wrong. Usually available for under a hundred quid. What's the point of leccy toilets anyway?
