regards the water being pumped in there is a separate floor hatch in the kids room and I think there are 2 pumps in there that bring water into the toilets

maybe volvopaul will be along at some point he may know more as he did tell me what they are but I have forgotton :o

got to admit I never had a single problem with the manual one in my s37 and we had that a year
 
Its the cold water cooling the turd too quickly.

Think of A BAR OF CHOCOLATE in your pocket, at body temperature its soft .

put it in the fridge (or in this case ice cold water toilet bowl) and it becomes solid.

flush during the grunt and the macerator will be able to pull the soft snake in to chop it up.

wait for the cold water to cool it and it the bar of chocolate will not make it round the bend.

if you do wait too long , there is no need to fish it out, just fill the bowl with hot water.

Gotcha. You've got the two-pump model, separate raw water and macerator pumps. You're quite right, no impeller in the macerator pump, just the chopper.

Does your macerator assembly look like this?

Anyway, when it "blocked", did it block with the bowl full of water+poo, or was it just that the poo wouldn't go away and the bowl was emptyish?

Just got in and no time to read all this.

Shawn, the silver chopper blade that you can see chops the poo and paper , it then is forced towards the rubber impeller then down the pipe, I'd say 99% that there will be blades missing off the impeller part no 16 on the drawing, my money is that you still have the impeller in the pump as per the other model shown, its the impeller that sucks away the waste.

It's another strip down to find the rubber impeller .
 
Shaun - Not read the full post yet but on your first post you mentioned cheap wilko toilet paper - DO NOT USE NORMAL TOLET PAPER AS THIS WILL BLOCK THE MACERATOR _ USE MARINE TOIET PAPER FROM YOUR LOCAL CHANDLERY.

Also if you eat nouveau cuisine meals rather than big helpings of stodge then you will only poo a little and that should also assist :nonchalance:

What he said.

Brooms seem to have routinely fitted one electric and one standard toilet to their boats and this thread illustrates why they did this. I have resisted the temptation (and requests from my son) to replace the fwd hand pump loo, which gives no trouble whatsoever,with an electric version. The electric aft loo, on the other hand, blocks periodically and muggins has to clear it out in the absence of there being any other volunteers.

Similarly, I refused to replace the single (hand pumped) toilet with electric on our last boat for the very same reason.

Not very helpful in solving the problem with your existing toilets but worth considering replacing at least one with a hand pump version.

I kind of disagree - we've had electric Tecma toilets on our boat and all three have been faultless for the nearly 7 years we've had it - and they've definitely been put through their paces! That said, I respect Shawn for sticking with what he's got and trying to resolve the problem - this can't be normal and replacing the existing toilets would be a waste IMHO. So my hat's off to Shawn - good luck with it :)

yes jimmy that looks more like my set up toilet base is a little different in shape but the exploded diagram of the chopper etc looks the same where did you get that pic from

ok paul I cant remember exactly how it looked now when I stripped it but I can remember seeing the silver chopping blades nothing missing there, is no' 16 in the picture the silver chopping blades or the rubber impeller I cannot remember seeing the rubber impeller you mention but I was getting a little cranky by this time :o

I will have to strip it again when I next go down and take some pics close up ones and put on here to see what you all think

in the mean time where can I get a service kit from just in case if I can identify which toilet system I have fitted, I will ring fairline when they re open and give them hull no etc

The impeller in your type of macerator isn't rubber, it's a rigid material - looks like this (I wouldn't have called this an impeller until VP corrected me!):

There's a little screw that goes in the side of it to key it to the motor shaft - make sure that's located and tightened correctly otherwise it just spins on the shaft.

PS take photos, lots of them, every time you do jobs like this, you'd be amazed how often you refer back to them, especially if you're not local to the boat. I've got literally thousands of pics of the T40, including some of the inside of the holding tank (!)

You've got a serial or part number on the pump,, it's quite clear in one of your earlier pics. I'd still put money on it being one or more impeller blades having broken off. Can't really see how it can be anything else. The stainless blades are purely for chopping, they do not pump.
 
Shaun when you strip the loo to inspect / replace the Impellor, I would see if you can increase the outlet pipe size to 38mm to as close to the loo outlet as possible. The longer the 19mm pipe run the more resistance to flow, especially for the more heavy stuff.

I have the Jabsco side mounted electric conversion pumps on OB and apart from a cracked outlet pump casing they have been very good, although number 1 daughter did manage to completely block the thing earlier this year, but using what I assessed to be 11 lots of approx 6-7 squares per wipe (yes about 70 squares of paper) was hardly a test any loo would pass.

poo went away and got stuck in the 19mm pipe which exists the rear of the toilet NOT the black rubber s shaped pipe that is tucked under the base of the toilet but the new 1m length of pipe that goes from the back of the toilet straight connector to the u bend where it changes to a larger 38mm pipe

the loo was then full of brown water no solids that could not exit the bowl due to the pipe being blocked

please remember I had not even got as far as putting toilet paper down at this time just poo
