Thats the Thames,,,there appears to be only one other boat in the lock ?

yes and the sun's out, but no trickery involved.

It's not even that far up, (shiplake lock) and apart from the blighted bit that is Reading where the yobs are, it's quiet and lovely above Henley. Notice also I'm the only boat tied to the pub's railings at the Swan and the only boat in their Garden at the Plough.

Have a good holiday Dave!

The pub looks better then it is, although I haven't ventured into it for several years I must admit. The last time I went in the barman suggested we were better off going in linchtime as in the evening it gets full of noisy oiks!

Some great pictures there.

Yes, the pub at Wallingford is not great. Each time we have been there we have been dissapointed. Our first visit was met with a distinct lack of any food available even at 7pm so had to go walkabout in Wallingford instead. Staff were not really interested in serving either. Our 2nd visit wasn`t much better with food being served but not of a great quality. Staff there seemed very anti boats as well for some reason.

The Swan is my "2nd Local". We quite often go there, its only 1 lock for us and I do like the Duck there altho I`m still not 100% sure its not straight from the river.

Another little Gem there is The Greyhound on the other side of the Bridge. Moor on the meadow and cross the bridge, its the 2nd pub on the right. Its a proper olde world local pub with some great real ales and home cooked food. No music or fruit machines just a good old fashioned Pub.

Thanks !

Looks nice , might take the missus up there for a drink one weekend .

DON'T it's a Yobbo hang out. Many's the big fight thats been had there including one where the local lads chased out the Pikeys that started using the place. I guess day time is OK though.

Incidentally, the "NO MOORING" written on the bank outside isn't legal. The frontage there was a public mooring right up until the dude who bought the boat yard off Mark Trafford and his silent partner ( ;) ) and redeveloped the site. It is only the latest owners who put up the sign.

WoW!

Elessar,

Thanks. Great pics. Can you just clarify where the Swan is located? Sounds like one we will check out.

Five days and counting for us! Lady captains are trying to match weather to wardrobe (clothing). Boat handler doesn't care...just get me to the river.

Just time to read Three Men In A Boat (to say nothing of the dog) then...

Take tinned pineapple, there is a Thames ritual you must observe:-)

Thanks for the suggestion. Just purchased "Three Men in a Boat (To say nothing of the Dog)" in preparation for our adventure.

Now, about the tinned pineapple...
