Hopefully, by next weekend we will have ability to charge our batteries from shore-power and will be able to use a fridge and cooker, but in the meantime, we've been making do with bbq'd food while spending the weekends on the hard at Fox's.

Last week we were so hot and tired after more coats of polishing and antifouling that we just couldn't be bothered to light the bbq - coupled with the threat of heavy rain we decided to go to the FMYC. Unfortunately, we couldn't get any food there due to a ticketed do, so decided to venture into Ipswich for a takeaway.

Well, not knowing Ipswich, we seemed to drive around in unfathomable circles keeping a lookout for takeaway shops. All the places we saw were surrounded for miles around by double yellow lines and although we could have gone to a town centre car park, we then thought we would end up wandering around town looking for said takeaways. It seemd that the whole town has no street parking. Maybe it's because we were so tired but it was beginning to feel like an ordeal! I really thought we'd drive out of Fox's, find a parade of shops somewhere, find a curry house, grab a poppadom and a Dhansak and be away in 10 mins.

Where did we go wrong?!

Where should we head next time we are looking for take-out?

As you can tell from my figure, I am used to using the local food establishments. :o
Local knowledge is a useful thing in such circumstances.....
Firstly, I would say that FMYC is a great starting point. It is very rare that there is an event on that precludes others from using the facilities.
The Chinese that Sailorman mentioned is called Laws Cottage, it is takeaway only and is very good. Cash only unfortunately . Phone first to save a wait. Just turn left out of the marina and follow the Shotley Road and it's on the left in Chelmondiston (correct spelling might help the SatNav.....). We use it (too) often. The one on the main Wherstead Road is closer but I have never had a decent meal from there so avoid it.
The chippy is called Starfish and is on the old bit of Wherstead Road (not the bit you take to town but you need to turn left at the Audi dealers and then right at the lights) and IMHO is at least as good as the fabled ones in Aldeburgh. I usually phone ahead with my order and it is ready to collect by the time I get there.
For Indian food, we have always used A Passage to India. They are on Fore Street in the town centre, which is just off the eastbound lane of the one way system near the docks. There is a free car park just past Fore Street (before Waterworks Street) where you can park to collect your meal or even park to eat in.
I have menu's on board for the two takeaways mention if you want them.....
I should be on commission........
If you want to know about any other places locally, I'll see if I can help.

Passage to India jolly good.
Also there is (or was, last year) a Chinese Buffet place in the newish development across the main road outside Ipswich Haven Marina i.e about 200yds due west of the marina office. Can't remember what it's called but I thought it was pretty reasonable.

If you drive further along the Shotley road to Shotley village there is a Pizza place on the right, and down the turning by the PO there is a fish and chips and an Indian takeaway. I believe the latter has recently changed hands so have no idea about current quality.
