Fog in the Channel

You done good. I would say the vis early wednesday morning was less than that further east.
Weird sailing along in a nice sw3 inshore , the full moon appearing then disappearing and hearing but not seeing groups of gulls chatting all around on the water..
First time I have then really really used the radar to ' find ' a training wall and tidal entrance projecting off a long beach.. Silent engineless approach , to ' hear' as well...every little helps but when you're down to 5m under the keel and nowt visible , nice to know the plotter and second gps datums won't, definitely won't, really really won't, take you past the breakwaters by a few metres and up onto the sands...

Left Cherbourg at 0600, along with another Brit boat heading for Yarmouth. Viz 500 Mtrs, the best it got was about a mile until we got to about 2Nm off Old Harry where it cleared. Picked up a buoy for the night off PYC. Time for dinner :)

Picture a dark night, thick fog and crossing the traffic lanes off Ushant without radar, hearing ships but not seeing them. Our last crossing.

There was an amazing haze here in Ventnor yesterday evening - clear down at street level, and bright sunlight, but you couldn't see the top of the spire on the church at the end of my road or St Boniface down. I love it how the fog does crazy things sometimes; probably wouldn't if I was out in the channel, though!
