Foam backed carpet

On my Swedish yacht parts of the foam backed carpet has managed to come adrift and stick itself to the lovely floorboards. This can be cleaned up of course but it’s leaving the carpet with bare Uneven patches. The wool carpet top is fine. And in good condition. New carpet is ridiculously expensive but assuming I’m not the only one to have had this problem have any posters overcome this using some sort of liquid foam ?
 
We had a similar problem and I managed to get an "end of roll" bargain of felt backed polypropylene carpet. The salesman assured me the felt backing was also polypropylene so fully rot-proof! I've now done the flooring twice, using the original as a template, and there's still enough left to replace the run in the main cabin.

You are more likely to pick up an offcut at a local independent carpet shop. Worth a look in your local directories .
 
I have used both foam backed and felt type carpets, both obtained from carpet shop's cheap offcut section. Indeed, so cheap they can be thrown away every year if they spoil. Newspaper does indeed stop rubber backing sticking to the sole and felt type lining can be made more stable by the use of this sort of thing underneath:

Might be worth trying the above under the damaged carpet, to see if it improves the look and feel. Before I tried the newspaper trick I had the same problem with delamination and slight unevenness but, in the end, lived with it till I bought in new stock.

Hadn’t thought to try this and I have a roll on board. Newspaper under is going to make the carpet slip perhaps unless it’s poppered to the floorboards - which mine isn’t. Thanks for the heads up though.

Just what we did. A local man bound the edges very well, using the old carpet as templates. The new carpet also has the advantage that it is much stiffer than the old one and doesn’t need fasteners to stay in place and avoid rucks.
 
Bathroom carpet - which I prefer and used on all previous boats - is hard to find here ... so present boat has "Office grade" Hessian backed carpet. Didn't need stitching at cut edge ....
Problem with Hessian backed - the Hessian if stays damp - starts to blacken and rot.

Shops here all have rubber based large mats inside entrance doors .... trouble is only colour is black. If they had some neutral grey or similar - it would be perfect.
