There's more previous threads on this than you can shake a stick at. Ex-SolentBoy is wrong. It's a criminal offence for a British ship to fly it. "British ship" is clearly defined in the Merchant Shipping Act. Most forum contributors who are British citizens sail around in British ships.

Whether anybody will bother prosecuting is another matter.
I have not flown one yet but I qualify because my son once attended a topper open meeting at a qualifying club and we slept in the back of the car in the dinghy park and my uncle was thrown out of the navy for being gay
