Anyone know of a rechargeable or 12v, lantern-type one for use in boat/campervan ?
Searching on "battery/12v/rechargeable/camping" etc produces hundreds that definitely are not, scores that might be but the sellers don't seem to want to commit themselves in print either way, and none that receive anything better than "useless waste of money" by way of buyer recommendation.*
Amazon list quite a few that they say are frequently bought along with a bulk pack of sticky fly-papers. It would be helpful to know how many of those belt-and-bracers purchasers subsequently return the electric job for a refund.

*I should say, for the avoidance of litigation, that there are, as ever, some 5 star reviews from buyers who " haven't unwrapped it yet, but it looks the canine's genitalia".
Quite why you would want something like that hanging up in your tent I don't know. Wouldn't it tend to make the problem worse?

Most bugs and especially Midges + Mosquito's are not interested in electronic bug killers regardless of type ...

CO2 and heat are biggest attractors ...

Little bit of research online shows up the near useless aspect of them ... its only Moths and similar that are attracted.

Oh no, not at all. The mains jobs work fine in the house. But you do reinforce my point that trying to research online is pretty much a waste of time.
Midges and Horseflies are the enemy here but only a problem outside . It's houseflies and bluebottles that the zapper takes care of - we are having an explosion of them just now, and I'm really happy for the swallows, frogs bats, whatever else eats them.

Blue Bottles / Houseflies ..... they annoy me ... you sit there and there's always one that keeps buzzing round you ...

My point was that facebook and online sites are full of BS sales claims of Electronics annihilating Mossies etc. - which is total BS. The only reason some Mossies are found in the Zappers is because they are close to and the heat attracts ... but vast majority have no interest in the zappers and in fact research shows they are not even aware of zappers !

When I lived in Hong-Kong we used to burn mosquito coils. They were quite effective.

Yep .... its the masking of CO2 ...

I was surprised when reading up about Citronella .... that majority of shop Citronella items are not true Citronella and only partly effective compared to real C ...
As I read - real C is in short supply.

Red Top fly traps are highly regarded here in SW France. They are highly effective, hung outdoors and attracting flies away from the house. It is common to see hundreds of dead flies inside the net hanging in trees, while the house with doors open might have one or two.

The traditional fly swat is best on flies as they are difficult to hit on the wing. For mossies at night a pair of torches and a electric tennis racquet is most effective, Think - bomber caught in the searchlights and AA fire.
