Fly bridge Covers

So winters coming. I normally fit the above which never seem to be successful the poles fall over and the cover fills with water. Now I also have separate covers for the controls seats and sunpad. Do some just leave the separate covers on and not bother with the large fly full cover .what do you think. Cheers SS.

I’ve got the full cover, ditto issues with rainwater and snow, am thinking of having a smaller cover made for the console.

If you have a large cover, then you need to tent it so it sheds water.....a pole in the middle usually works

There are some vents you can buy which attach to the canvas . I think the poles may be a tight fit in the vent so they dont drop out if the wind lifts the canvas but you may wish to verify that. I haven't used them.
I see they offer poles to go with the vent. I thing any existing metal eye in the canvas would need to be cut out.

Usually more than one pole is required. The issue can be the wind lifting the canvas off the pole and the pole falls over . The poles should be adjustable for length and this should be sufficient . But some designs are better than others.

We are looking into a full cover for the boat and an extended cockpit tent for next season.

All the boats at our marina take different approaches to covering their boats for the winter, with one or two of them being live aboards they usually get fitted insulation on the windows but no actual covers on them.

At the moment we just have a small tent on the cockpit and a helm instrument cover which no longer fits after the previous owner made some alterations to the upper helm.

Im my case the pole has a plastic spike

and a metal eye in the canvas.

But this does not necessarily solve the issue with the wind lifting the canvas off the spike

Perhaps if the spike had a hole through it...you could put stick through it .....and the base of the tent pole can be fixed to the boat deck

We have a tailor made cover for the flybridge. I added a couple of poles plus some rods and strips to keep them upright, but it's a struggle to put up and I hesitate to take it down for the same reason.

We have a tailor made for winter storage for our 30' Fly mobo. Breathable, snug and light, zipper in the rear to allow for easy access

Certainly something that keeps the spike connected to the canvas could be a solution . Fixing at the base of the pole then probably not required.

We only have a cover for the helm binnacle on the fly and no overall cover, which keeps things nice a simple and easy to use but then our seat cushions are stored down below. I guess the purpose of an overall cover is to keep seat cushions dry as otherwise I have never really seen the point of them other than adding a degree of phaff?

Yes that’s my view. I take the cushions below too, so I’ve got a big cover to protect areas of GRP seating. Has two poles too.

We had constant issues with the poles falling over. Had one vent so ordered a pole and base, as below. Worked really well so ordered another vent, pole and base. All fitted in March this year, neither pole has fallen over since.

I had issues with the poles falling over, I bought a tripod speaker stand to replace the centre pole an found that helps a lot.
Its more stable and seems to help the other 2 poles stay in place.

On our last boat sealine F43 had a full cover made had it so a s/s ridge was incorporated in a pocket that the poles slide into, then legs that attached to the ridge pole, never had any problems with it, we always replace cover when boat not in use, keeps everything dry and clean, present boat Fairline squad 52 full cover is supported by helm seats works really well, I can install full cover as quick as individual ones, we also remove cushions when not on boat ,

Certainly a lot of them have gone home. Two of the local eastern European shops have closed . One of them is allegedly re-opening as a McDonalds.
