I have a Suzuki 6hp OB. It says flush with fresh water after use.Is this really important or can I get away with flushing occasionally or not bother at all. I would be interested in what other people do. The reason I ask is that it isn't an easy thing to do on a Suzuki.

Occaisionally is enough and for most people that means at the end of the season. I hang mine on a plank across a drum of fresh water and just run th eengine for a few minutes.

We run ours (DF5) in a black plastic bucket. One person holds the engine whilst another starts it. We keep the hose in the bucket just to keep it topped up. You can't put it into gear but it runs quite happily at tick over. I was told that a few drops of washing up liquid also help flush the salt out.
