I have a 1991 4.3L mercruiser in a boat I keep on moorings in Poole Harbour.
I read I am supposed to flush the engine out with fresh water after every
trip, but this isn't practical.
Any suggestions?

In an ideal world yes. If the boat is left on the mooring, you have'nt go much of a choice. It should'nt be too much of a problem as the flushing is to get rid of salt and sediment left to dry out in the water ways of trailer boats pulled out after use. Your engine should'nt suffer too much, mine did'nt, kept it on a mooring down there for 4 years, enginge did'nt suffer any damage. One problem was the outdrive as i did'nt antifoul it. Spent ages cleaning the thing every month or so. Dont know what it is about poole, but things seem to grow faster than anywhere else, must be that nucular plant up the road in winfrith!!

Raise sterndrive to trailer position, fit (propper) muffs attach hose and lower then run. Alternatively you can Fit an internal flusher or a "salt away" kit

Perhaps someone who lives locally will loan a long enough hosepipe to reach the mooring in Poole Harbour?....

"Propper muffs" are great if you've got a freshwater supply....tricky on a mooring.

From what I've heard, mercruisers etc do OK w/o being flushed ( do it when it's hauled out though) : it's not ideal- but they seem to cope well.
