Flood warnings as well!

Forecast surge for lunchtime tide today is negative 0.75m, so it will be lower than usual. Forecast for early am tomorrow is positive ~1.3m which is what the fuss is about.

Because it's blowing down the North Sea which is where our tide comes from. Combine that with low pressure here and high pressure elsewhere.
==================================
The last BIG tide was 8th-9th November 2007
The maximum surge was 2.0m at Harwich (Shotley) but occurred well after low water
Still , the height of tide at Harwich/Shotley peaked at 5.0m
This left just 600mm spare on the marina piles

So - if the tide gets up to 5.6m today
those boats still afloat in the marina may be in trouble !!!!
I'm one of them so ------ I'm just off to get my calculator

Shotley, 4 boats from mine.

Thanks - yes Shotley

I've just had the calculator out (well Excell)
And I reckon that the pontoons it will rise to the very top of the Shotley posts
According to the tide on 8th Nov 2008 (peak 5.0m with 600mm spare on the piles)
today's tide may peak at 5.6m
(attached graph is just HHA predictions plus NTSLF surge)

Hmmm, I wonder whether the management has a contingency plan? It's not as if the pontoons can go very far, but the potential for damage is still significant.

Will the management think to keep the lock gates shut

Just had a message from Fox's Marina

Due to expected high winds and tides they are pulling some of the larger boats out including Sea Dweller to aleviate stress on the pontoons

May

Just heard they have evacuated 2500 households in Jaywick!

Someone, somewhere must have some good info about a seriously large amount of water coming down the North Sea tonight!!

...or someone in a panic, or someone from the media pumping up a story. I doubt there are 2500 occupied households in Jaywick to be evacuated
