Floating an idea...

I did wonder if there was a programme or two following the style of Portillos' Railway Guide and Bradbury's Canal Walks etc to do Irvings' half-tide routes. But it would all be rather flat (and grey) I guess - and perhaps a tad risky!

Crowd-funding the early stage would be one way to get the script development done, secure the actors (we have potential access to some "well known names") establish the full production budget and possibly shoot a trailer. This would then be used to attract the main investment for the main film production.

Hmm, you moved to the Bristol area and you're in film making... These wouldn't be well known plasticine actors would they?

Personally I don't think it gets any better than 'Go East'. I'm using it as an introduction tonight when talking to 90 Solent sailors. To be truthful 85 Solent sailors and 5 East Coast sailors

Got to to agree with you; I had this in my mind for the theme music of an East Coast film before I read as far as your post.

OK so I'm putting a crowd-funding project together which should hopefully open up at the end of October.

I'll post more details about the whole thing over the next few weeks as I go but basically:

- it will be a bit of a romantic comedy but with a nautical/maritime backdrop
- it will feature a sailing boat as well as a small cast of human actors
- the story will be set mostly around the Blackwater, with occasional forays up to Pin Mill and Stour, Walton Backwaters and probably the Deben.
- not sure yet about the period in which it will be set, I have some options I'm thinking about: could be contemporary or it could be back aways and a bit more nostalgic

Period filming is always more expensive to do as we'd have to think about modern cars & buildings, marinas, wind farms, power boats, nuclear power stations etc.

That's all I can say at the moment.

I'm thinking about how to film it, as there are specialist maritime filming companies but these may well be expensive. I'm considering a more DIY low-budget approach (any mobo owners willing to become camera platforms?) but need to look into the health and safety & insurance aspects of this.

The first crowd-funding project will be for the "development" stage only, so basically:

- finish the script
- get cast and crew signed up
- research locations
- research production
- produce a budget
- probably do some test filming if the budget will stretch

Oh, forgot to mention, it's more than likely going to be shot in 3D :D

I'm looking into EIS and SEIS at the moment. EIS was a fairly standard way to fund film projects but the rules changed in Feb to favour engineering and manufacturing (which I fully support) so SEIS is looking more likely.

Do you deal in this sort thing?

Yes I can imagine the cost of replacing the wind farm on Gunfleet with a stack of these.
