Flexiteek diy

I've done a small bathing platform myself, I used strips and 3 strip sheets to make mine up. The hardest part was the border, getting the gaps and angles to match the preformed panels was difficult and very time consuming. I wouldn't say the result was perfect, but I'm very proud to have done it myself.

If I were to do it again, I would probably go for pre made panels and install it myself rather than make it up in situ, especially as the next bit to do on my boat are the side decks which have a curved profile. You can save a significant amount of money doing it yourself, so that may be a factor for you as well.

Either way, please do post some pictures of the process, I'd enjoy following your transformation.

I did the steps into the saloon on our last boat (Targa 35). It was a bit fiddly but doable. I guess it depends upon your practical ability. I was pleased with the result but not sure I would have tackled a larger area because the imperfections in my finish may be more noticeable. Oh, and Sikaflex is the work of the devil.....be very, very careful not to get it on anything! :)

Has anyone installed flexiteek themselves? Is it better to have the panel measured and made to install yourself?
Or is it feasible to make it all up to save some money?
There are about 25 m2 to do

Do you mean flexiteek, or any old generic synthetic teak decking?

You can't buy flexiteek for DIY as the panels have to be welded. You can buy it to lay yourself, which I sort of did (I got my gelcoat magician to do it whilst he was doing other things).
It is tricky to lay well, and the way it's laid makes all the difference in the world. Small, or long thin panels are easier than big square ones.

Flexiteek is IMHO the best of the synthetics, and I am absolutely delighted with mine. AFAIK it is the only one that has colour variations within it like real wood does.

Their DIY version is called Isiteak. Still too expensive for me unfortunately.

Flexiteek is not a cheap option, the cost is similar to real teak. For me it is the better option, not the cheaper option.

Didn't know a bout Isiteak, but a DIY version is glued together so isn't the same, though if it is a DIY version with colour variations it would be a nice product nonetheless.
