Fletcher Mustang 2800 cruiser 2001, Is it:

British or American Built??

Good or Bad build?

Good Boat, Bad Boat??

Worth alook or Stay away??

Good enough for coping with the waters in the Clyde?

If Mustang is the Builder, then why was it sold as Fletcher in the country??

Does anyone have any experience or opinions on this boat, They want to share??

Oh, And i only know of one for sale in this country, so i don't have much to compare it with.

From memory it is an American boat imported by Fletcher to widen there offering to Uk customers without the problem of building a new boat.

I think I read that in one of the mags but cant remeber.

It is a Mustang 2800 that was imported by Fletcher and re-badged so that they could enter the Sportscruiser market Cheaper! They tended to be expensive and are similar quality to Maxums. The 2800 has a similar layout as the Glastron 279 GS.

Never been out in one so don't know how they handle but they look nice with the Oval windows and GRP radar arch.

At the right price may be worth considering?

With a single petrol it won't be cheapto run, but the price looks good. I remember them being 48k new at the Boat show in 2000/2001. The key thing to think about is how long will you keep it. Re-sale will never be as easy as with better known brands and the Fletcher name took a beating over the last three years with Hull and Structural problems. This was not made by Fletcher but may be tarred with the same brush. If it is what you want for 2/3 years then looks a good package.

Thanks, Both.

And Phil, it is quite a Spec, sheet isn't it./forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

I know its a Petrol, but the way i see it, I currently run a 5.0MPI 260php Sportsboat., Ok Heavy on fuel When i enjoy the speed, Which is most of the time./forums/images/icons/smile.gif A cruiser is for cruising, so would be at a more liesurely pace, so the fuel would possible work out about the same.!! Yes, no??

The problem with the Maxum 3000, they usually come with twin engines and that would expencive running.

I know diesel is the way, But SWMBO spotted this and likes it./forums/images/icons/crazy.gif

Hi

The Mustang is Australian built and imported into the UK by Fletcher. Fletcher took on the importation of these after searching for a brand that would match the image and quality that Flethcers name had over here, excluding last few years when quality was a bit duff IMHO. The Mustang looks a bit bare inside but has most of the neccessary. Had a good look round them at Poole when they were being sorted out for the boat show a few years back.

It has an excellent pedigree for handling the chop very well and are built ruggedly.

Not sure on how easy it is to sell being a lesser known make, but as a boat are excellent for the conditions we have off our coasts.

I have a test of the 2800 somewhere- if you want i can try to dig it out and email you it-let me know.

My Boat is a similar size (but Greater Beam) and has twin petrols so I know what it costs to run. Even on Windermere I can use £120 in a weekend just doing a pub crawl down the lake.

The point is Petrols are cheaper to buy, and you get more boat for your money. If you are doing a lot of cruising stay clear of petrols but at only 33k it seems a good long term buy.

Boats.com have a test of it so have a look.

I can easily spend £100 a weekend, and i've only a single screw.

I can't find a Test on the Mustang 2800, but i did find some for sale, A diesel 2001 for £50k, And a Petrol 2000, for £40K, Makes this one look a good price.

Can you give me a link to the test please.?

Thanks

Alistair.

Hello Alistairr

We had the Maxum 2900SCR until we got the F33. It took 102 galls to fill and we got around 10 gals per hour at about 1000rpm and 20 to 30 galls per hour at cruising to WOT. Good boat - really fast and great to handle but the cost of running !!!! Oh my GAWD! We loved the boat anyway but the fuel costs....... It had twin merc v6 4.3 on bravo 2's. Cost £1000 to service approx including anodes. We regretted not waiting and buying a diesel boat even if we had had to wait for the F33 a bit longer. You get better money when chopping it in for your next one as you may know. Hope these figures help you in your decision. Mind you, we all fall in love with a boat and once we make up our minds..............!? Good luck and see you soon. Roy

Thats funny, cuase I had the 3000 scr single petrol before the 330. I thought the Maxum was a great Boat, even with petrol, even on the Thames at that time. I have a petrol Boat in Spain so no real axe to grind, but petrol certainly seems to provide more speed and less smell ,

Its a fairly nice boat.
I've just phoned the dealer again about it, And He says "She's been taken off the market, The owner have decieded not too sell her!!!"/forums/images/icons/crazy.gif

Yesterday, they were all for selling her to my Wife.

Sorry for wasting everybodies time. Cheers Guys.

What a Mad world.

Nah - I still reckon a "Proper" Mustang made by Ford would be better - and it would have the power to tow your American boat - now all we have to do is work on your Accent !!!
Whats yours Louisana drawl like ???
