Fleetwood Marina

Can anybody offer advice +/- about keeping a boat at Fleetwood Marina?

This will be short term(until July))

Its quite a few years ago since i kept a boat there, the marina was well run and friendly, the problem is the short tidal gate, (Whitehaven is better in this respect) You get a couple of hours to potter or sail at Fleetwood, once you leave the marina for a trip, you are committed, if the weather turns bad, the only refuge is Piel island across the bay. Its ok for a day sail to IOM, Conway, Whitehaven etc.

Whitehaven is excellent.

Very friendly staff, good facilities and the town is ok too.

The Sealock is good. Pontoons either side which float so no messing about up against dirty walls

Fleetwood has more options in terms of shelter and places to go, however, the point made about the briefness of the time you can sail is well made. Once out of Whitehaven its a bit of slog to Ramsey if the weather isn't good otherwise if Workington, Maryport,Ravenglass or the Scottish coast.
Road links to Whitehaven and Fleetwood need to be considered - depends where you are travelling from.
Glasson is easily achievable in a tide, Piel and Barrow are other options - I'm allergic to the Ribble!

I'm only 20 minutes from Fleetwood hence viewing a boat there..

Fairy Nuff, apart from me being nosey, there may be cheaper ways to moor a boat in the Fleetwood area, dependant on it draft,size etc, I am sure the good Mr Claymore is more up to date than me, I have not been in the area for a number of years.

It's not a big boat...8m.
