Long shot, I know, but does anyone know of a source of replacement burners for my ancient Flavel Vanessa cooker? They are very rusty, probably unsafe.

I don't think they are still available. Have you tried just dismantling and giving everything a good clean with a wire brush and poke burner holes clear?

In my garage I have a Flavel 2 burner cooker with grill and oven (I think it is a Vanessa but need to check) that I removed from my boat. Somone has taken the fiddles and the grill is rusted out and no longer working, otherwise it was fully working at the beginning of last year. All the knobs are unbroken and there is a shelf in the oven. I have been meaning to list it on eBay as for spares, so if you would like it then send me a PM. I am based in Kent but can pack for your carrier to collect.

I failed to find any about 15 years ago. The joy of my Nelson Spinflo was worth every penny.
Sadly the Nelson Spinflo is now obsolete and parts are difficult to get. I needed a new valve for the hob on a 2003 model. The response from Thetford was that these valves are no longer available and that I should scrap the otherwise perfect cooker. Considering the Nelson Spinflo cookers were still on sale in early 2019, I was horrified by that response.

I last had a Vanessa in ‘99. They don’t have flame failure cut-outs, unless some clever chap has managed to fit them, and should probably be replaced.

Thanks all. I'll take out the burners and try and clean them up. Thanks for the offer Concerto, but if this doesn't work I'll look at a new replacement rather than putting off the inevitable.

Thanks Concerto. I'd only be interested in the two burners - if they were in decent nick and matched the Vanessa burners. The rest of the cooker seems in pretty good condition.

The burners do respond to a good clean-up. Tap gently to displace rust flakes and shake them out of the air tube. There's not much you can do when they rust through, though. I found a donor cooker for spare burners for my Vanessa on e-bay.

I have just been through this issue with my Plastimo Atlantic cooker. The burner tops were corroded beyond repair and obsolete. I removed the gas burners and capped the feeds to them and have inserted two Tangia camping spirit burners in their place. I now have a hybrid cooker with gas oven and grill and spirit burners. Total cost was about £30.
