Flat Screen TV Lift

I have still not managed to source a cheap version of a flat screen TV lift to install on our boat.

The TV is just a cheapo and is very light - so I don't want to spend £750.00 /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif on a lift - which is the cheapest I have found to date.

Any ideas please?

Couldn't get that to load Rick, although I know what it does, it would have been nice to see it run. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

They add a nice touch, especially when remote control. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Fairly standard .avi file *shrug*. Not got time to change it to anything different now though.

Loaded perfectly for me - but then I'm on Vista /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Not sure about the product featured though - vague overtones of the local crematorium!!.

We gave up in the end, chastened by unfriendly welcome to the forum last year on posting a similar query.

Our solution then was to keep an LCD in the existing TV cupboard out of sight but easy to lift out for use. One less thing to go wrong....

New acquisition (hopefully) has flat screen safely & permanently fixed to saloon bulkhead, fed by PC for extra chart work....

Thats about £300 in real money I think - which is about the cheapest yet.

It still seems a bit of an overkill for a £100.00 TV that weighs about 6 lbs - or am I being unrealistic? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Adrian

I seem to remember that there was a post on here some time ago mentioning this guy.

I believe he was going to try to put together a reasonably priced lift for marine use (not that anything with Marine in its title is ever reasonably priced)

My husband keeps saying he will fabricate one - but I would still be waiting for it this time next year /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I used the flat lift that Rickp's link shows. Well engineered and does the job really well. I think it is capable of 42/42" flat screen TV's so probably a bit of over kill.

Ok, if you want to do it on the cheap go to your local scrapyard and buy the full electric window winder mechanism from an old Jag or similar, including the lower frame with the motor and gear track. Choose the one with the tallest windows to get max lift height.

Re-install the frame in the cavity you have made for the TV, wire it up to the boat 12v supply, and fit a rocker switch, or if you really want to impress the ladies, buy a remote control switch from somewhere like Maplins or RS.
