Which is exactly the attitude that allows them to get away with it. They are in the charter business. Fair wear & tear is theirs to deal with.

How many hatches have you broken due to "fair wear and tear"? Unlikely on a newish boat.

"Fair wear and tear", what we used to refer to as FWAT because it was a subject that came up so frequently , both in charter usage and in warranty claims on new yachts. Often very difficult to define. One charter boat owner wanted all the mooring cleats replaced because they had become scratched over the course of the first year in charter. Hey ho!
