We owned on of these a while back. Great little boat. Ours took us to the Canaries, Madeira and back plus numerous cross channel trips. Not the best to windward but gentlemen do not sail to windward!

Uhh? Wasn't that the one with a huge low aspect genoa and a vestigial mainsail? Sort of dhow with a mizzen affect

No, thats the 27/28 ms. Sailed one briefly on Windermere inthe early 70's when Borwicks / Aquatics were a dealer. Strange rig but it worked sort of ok. so long as the roller reefing keeps working. Like all fjords nicely built. The 33ms has the more traditional nordic appearance, long, thin & low, also double ended. v.v. expensive then for what you got though.

I think if you check that is not what I said. They are simply the best all round cruising boat that I know of. And that for me outweighs the question of looks. The new Amel 54 is an improvement on previous generations. It is probably the biggest cruisig boat that a couple could conveniently handle and the quality is such that it is often referred to in France as the Rolls of yachts. It is of course €825k but look what you get in the standard specification ; there are no options.

Moreover, the Amel as a make have the most ARC crossings to their credit, ahead of Hallberg Rassy's, Oysters and Swans.

I was in your position 2 years ago. I bought and I and family (wife with no experience and three kids no experience) still enjoy every minute on board. Two layout options which are you looking at? Hope it works 4 you.
