Mild steel epoxy coated . Suspect pinhole or cracked weld locallyat bottom however only welded at ends, top and around 6 inch sq 3 inch deep sump.located at one end Unfortunately tank lies flush with hull and impossible to inspect at bottom . Emptied last year and inside looked very good . No signs of rust on inside on bottom . Also major effort to remove possibly destroying some wood work and fittings
I have spent considerable time and effort trying to fix leaks in built in keel-top GRP tanks and been plagued with pinhole leaks. The final solution was to use Thistlebond (from E Wood) which is a thick resin based goo. This seems to have been effective. My son-in-law who is a ships engineer, tells me they also use it for all sorts of sealing applications on various materials. He also tells me that they use an aerosol applied spray into a tank which is then pressurised. This blows the spray into any remaining holes. I do not know the identity of this;- sorry.
