I was planning to do a circumnavigation that year as it will b e my 50th and my Contessa's 40th year, it would be even more fun if I could join a group, Hopefully there will be lots of Scuttlebutts there. Chrissie /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
But it isn't a group thing. It allows you to go at any time during a 5 month window so you are unlikely to meet any other 'competitors. Sounds a little like the infamous Golden Globe RTW race where everyone doing the course that year was deemed to be taking part.
OTOH maybe I'll do a Crowhurst and just sit in Plymouth sending bogus reports by SSB. Think I might skip the final chapter though.

I know its not really a group thing, but I know lots of girls with their own boats, and I reckon that theres a group of us who would take our boats, and plan our port stops so that we can meet up for support chat provisions and wine of course! we might even fly a scuttlebut pennant....
Why not just organise a Scuttlebut round Britain cruise in company for 2008? It's far enough ahead for people to get organised. A cruise in company would be a lot more fun. Forumites from different areas could just join in conga style as the flotilla went past thier home port.
I quite like the idea. I've been round twice but both times through the canal and always in a bit more of a hurry than I'd like. I think the best way to make it a proper cruise in company would be to set a series of rendezvous ports on specified dates so that people can meet up and then go on together if they wish. The Blue water rally works in that sort of way so people can set their own itinerary between the 'official' stops.
A couple of years ago I tried to set up a Scuttlebutt West Country meet but it came to nothing as everyone had different ideas of what they wanted to do and while quite a few expressed interest, when it came to the crunch no one was prepared to commit. In the end it was just me having a drink with Scillypete in St Mary's!
