There was a brief article in the Skippers Tips section of the July YM where Admiral Cunliffe describes how he's going to fit oil pressure, temperature and volts gauges to his Yanmar engine panel.

Has anyone also done this? Can you fit simply fit, say, VDO gauges and use the existing sensors by splicing into the wiring to the alarm lamp or do you have to fit new sensors for the new gauges? The engine is a 3YM20.

Any advice would be hugely appreciated.

Cheers,
Pete

For oil pressure and temperature no, I wouldn't have thought so, as the alarm sensors will be simple on-off switches. The gauges will come with something suitable: either transducers or, if mechanical, a pipe for the oil pressure and a bulb and capillary for the temperature.
