Discovered the problem with my steaming/deck light not bulb related and most probably the connections inside the unit. The Aqua Signal 25 looks very similiar but it has bendable wings to shape round the mast with one hole fitting. So far as I can see the existing one has 3 screws each side. Would you tap into plastic to use all the holes in mast or fill unused ones and if so, what with?

Probably just fit the new light so that the plastic wings hide the old holes.

Position of cable entry might be the most important factor though.

No need to fill old holes other than for cosmetic reasons
Self tappers or pop rivets might disguise old holes that cannot be hidden. Black insulating tape will hide them ( black because the adhesive does not degrade in a few months)

If any passing gulls complain about the scruffy appearance of your mast head shoot them.
