My boat is coming out of the water for a month so I'll be doing some preventative maintenance - or fiddling as it's known ;). I have a corroded toilet discharge seacock that appears to be weeping slightly so am thinking about replacing it - I'll probably replace the discharge hose too as it's likely to be calcified as well. Normally I like to fit like for like but unsure who made the originals in this case. Any recommendations for suppliers and which material to go for? I'm assuming they go by thread measurement?

Toilet outlet is normally 1 1/2" BSP. Good source is ASAP supplies for DZR valves and fittings. You may find it easier to replace the whole lot rather than trying to unscrew the valve, particularly if access is poor. Grind off the external flange and pull the fitting and valve from the inside. If replacing the hose, just cut it off rather than struggling to remove it from the spigot. Then replace the whole lot - skin fitting, valve and tail.

Thanks, access is pretty good as it's in the engine room. Any comment on the plastic skin fittings with sensors that indicate if they're open / closed?

+1 good advice

As above replace whole lot, 4.5 inch grinder with the 1mm thick slitting discs makes it a doddle to do, also need some good sealant to seal the hull fitting with, new stainless jubilee clips as well.

I have glass reinforced plastic fittings throughout (8 or 9 below w/l iirc) of various sizes. Chose Trudesign as I couldn't find the other brand down here.
Very happy with them. I occasionally turn them off and on again, but they are all really really smooth after two seasons.
They do have an option with sensors, but that will be the black water tank discharge seacock which you want closed at all times (just in case) and only open it when you want to empty the black water tank contents out on the sea (according to local rules)
Couldn't find them so no experience. Nice panel with leds iirc giving what's open and what's closed but I think a bit on the expensive side unless you have too many that you keep on turning on and off and you're about to loose the ball...

cheers

It is always the heads discharge seacock !
That is what my surveyor told me and what I have observed from the forum - the 'product' causes significant deterioration of metal seacocks.
I followed his recommendation and put a Marelon seacock in - the whole skin fitting inside and out. These are GRP, a little more expensive and may need a bit more work as they like a backing pad to rest against. But it is IMHO the best.

The Tru Design non metallic valves are a direct replacement for metallic valves and fittings so no modifications required, unlike the Forespar Marelon type.

I am in the process of Replacing all of mine (4) after 5 years with Trudesign composite plastic, but all I have is holes at the moment.
They were all in various stages of decay with the shaft lube being the worst, engine intake not much better, Toilet outlet showing initial stages and toilet intake showing the coppery dots that seem to be the beginning of it.
Will put up some more pics as work progresses.
If you have any questions pls ask

Thanks - if the skin fitting is fine then I'll just replace with like for like otherwise a Tru Design kit makes sense.

Does anyone know who distributes them in the UK?
