Places like Hawke House sell a carpet type of lining http://www.hawkehouse.co.uk/linings/carpet-linings.html

You could buy cheap ( synthetic) carpet from a carpet shop.

You could investiagate the carpet lining used in road vehicles like coaches etc

The method of attaching self adhesive lining is obvious .

other linings will need a contact adhesive http://www.hawkehouse.co.uk/adhesives.html

be very aware of the dangers of using solvent based adhesives in confined spaces. Good ventilation and the appropriate mask both essential.

Looks like HH have made their new website live a bit prematurely !

The self adhesive carpet sold by HH is very good, and can be worked into quite complex shapes. Here is one I did. This is in one piece.

I did the whole headlining in one piece too, which was a spray adhesive job, the 3M mask was brilliant.

The key was preparation of the surfaces, and clearing out everything in the way, and having a dry run through before finally committing to adhesive. There were 2 of us and we sorted out how we could assist each other during the job. We married afterward too, which goes to show it is possible to do the job harmoniously.:D

Best of luck

I used rot-proof polypropylene carpet and spray contact adhesive on Avocet's forepeak. No photos, unfortunately, but turned out reasonably well.

The trick is to not try to make it go round tight compound curves. The sides of the forepeak were the same curve as the hull. That meant filling the shallow indentation that was the reverse face of the moulded rubbing strake with expanding foam and then filing it flat with a surform. There were also two big stiffening ribs running longitudinally (maybe 50mm square) along each side. I covered those first, and then ran bigger sheets of carpet from the deckhead down to the top of each one and from the underside of each one, down to the bunks.

It's pretty revolting stuff though - very hard and scratchy, but fine for reducing condensation and creating the impression of something a bit more "finished".

Hi All

thanks for the info...and impressive pics...looks great. Think the HH self adhesive carpet sounds just the ticket....I just have flat hull sides to cover so should be very simple. Agree HH website looks like a Beta version! Still will contact them.

Now if I line the fore peak do you think I can charge my guests extra for B&B given higher level of comfort...could recoup costs that way?

The HH stuff is, by all accounts, the mutt's nuts, but priced accordingly. If you have flat panels, I'd be tempted to see what CarpetWrong has to offer in the way of polyprop carpet, then buy it on line for half the price I'd probably still go with HH's insulation, though. I've got to do the forepeak on Jissel, which has a fair bit of double curvature so I'll probably end up going with HH for everything if I can get the Admiral to approve the cost.

I'm doing the same at the moment, but I'm first lining it out with the closed cell foam with the self adhesive before lining with carpet (also with the self adhesive backing). So far so good, and HH were very helpful.

Carpetright cord carpet is excellent . Its foam backed , molds easily to the curves and does so when initially offered up prior to cutting with scissors to exact shape . Its also cheap at around £2.99 m2 . We lined the forepeak sides some 4 years ago and its still snug as a bug in there and 2 years ago the quarter berth sides and ceiling.
