Fitting Charge Pressure Guage kit to KAD42

Yeah, I need to do more testing as I can’t remember what the readings where at different revs. Defo saw 1.5 bar at one point.

I was preoccupied with coolant in the bilge! Volvopaul is helping me with that one. He is an epic chap :encouragement:

The imbalance will make me check all my pipe work, valve adapters etc....for air leaks etc so useful in that regard. The lower reading engine has a rebuilt turbo so quite possible that’s the reason. The other engine is a brand new turbo. No doubt proper gauges are more accurate but I’m happy with it.

Boat running great regardless :D

Apologies for the scruffy lines and fenders....very poor show on my part

unless the rebuilt is really really poor, I'd check pipework/valves/wastegates et al (and swap sensors around just in case...)
I'm saying that based on the fact that my port turbo is rebuilt, relatively poorly but only 200euro iirc, gap between blades and body is diffinitely larger than on the untouched turbo, and other than a delay in upping the boost when midway there, once at planning speed they both read the same and the same at WOT (which btw is 2bar)

boat looks v.good, well done, waters not so, but cannot have everything in life :p

And just what is wrong with that water Vas? Looks just peachy to me ;) Swimming weather right there too :encouragement:

I will wire in my units now that I have all the bits and finally sorted out the priority items that weren't playing ball and see if my figures are any different.

It’s rarely flatter than that around here :)

It will be good to compare your readings.

Started looking at the lower boosting engine and definitely have an air leak. Couple of clips on the intake side are slipping so not tightening enough. That will help but I need someone else to start the engine and bring in the supercharger whilst I check the pipework. I need to find a friend next week :):):)

Missing blanking bolt on the cac so there’s my air leak after the turbo. Found a bolt in the bilge months ago....now I know where it was from!

Will report back on the next run out....looking forward to see how markc gets on :encouragement:

yeah, just pick up the bolts from the bilge and keep them in a box...
Impressed it could do .5bar, how big was the bolt?

so when's the next run out with less than a F8, June or July :p

:):):) Next few weeks hopefully. M12 bolt. It was before the exchanger core too so less pressure to push the air though maybe? . I guess I will find out!

well for sure the tire kit has paid it's money back already ;)
wonder if you'll be able to feel the performance difference.
also wonder how big are the engines and how heavy is the boat.

Mine with 2X330 and 12tons, if I remove an M12 from one of my chargecoolers, I doubt it will go up to plane...

2 x 230 hp....8 tons....outdrives....a thing of wonder :):):)

When getting on the plane, you can feel that engine is slightly less powerful than the other. I’m also a bit under propped and on J series so that probably masks it. Happy enough though as it makes 35 knots (38 when new)

Hopefully you'll be back up to 38 knots after you fix the air leak.

It's Very interesting that this cheap solution revealed this issue. I'm tempted to do the same with my d4, but I need to have a poke around and find out what existing tapping I have on the inlet side to put a sensor into.

Both engines make 3900 revs anyway so with the setup I think 35 knots is the top. I’m not going to spend money on different props for 3 more knots to be honest. Bit less stress on the elderly engines currently too so I understand. 25 knot cruise is 3200 revs so Happy all round as is.

Can’t imagine it will be too hard to find an unused bolt on the d4 intake?

OK you're on, I've ordered the various bits and pieces, came to £45 in total. Will report back in a few weeks on success or failure.

The blanking plug has a washer so reused that.

Bit of ptfe on the valve part. Can’t imagine it makes much odds. Only air and the loss via the thread gap would be tiny. There’s a drain hole on the cac that’s loads bigger anyway.

Another day testing but it was a bit lumpy however 1.1 bar on both when superchargers are in....1.6 bar at 3800. Both read within a few psi of each other now so that’ll do! :)
