Hello all you fishermen,

My mate has a fishing licence, and is wondering what the rules are about fishing on the thames off my boat? Do we need a day ticket, or can we fish off my boat without one?

I'm not a fisherman, but I think that if you have an EA rod licence it depends then on whether or not the water you are on also requires a permit. A special EA permit is available for fishing locks and weirs.

The EA have an extensive website for fishing

It all depends if it's a club water/stretch of the river. Most clubs don't do a day ticket only season tickets.

If he has an EA rod licence then you can fish of your boat with a rod . Last year it was two rods per licence , ive not bought one this year as £30 is taking the pee .
You are not allowed to be underway and fish with spinner or nets though as that is classed as trawling . Thats how i understand it anyway and i am or was a keen fisherman .
Saying that i dont know of anyone that has been stopped for spinning off the back of a boat for fun and have seen some lovely perch and pike pulled out as they love the chase . I think as long as you throw them back no one has an issue with it .

No That is not correct.

Fishing off a boat and if the boat is floating in the middle of the river does not require a Club's ticket or membership. Clubs can only charge for bankside angling in specific stretches of the water OR in a lake (even if you go with a boat in the middle of the lake).

In a river a club can only expect the members to pay the club fee if they use the club's facilities (a ponthoon, or bankside platform, etc.).

You still need the Rod License from EA.

Simple!

...and while we have all you experts together....

Am I right in thinking my son wont need a licence until he is 12 years old?
