Is fishing off an Avon 345 inflatable a good idea? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Could the hooks easily puncture the tubes? /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Cheers

No probs, I regularly fished off our rubbers (until I got a proper fishing boat that is..).

I'm sure that you could put a hook through a tube if you really tried but in practice they either dont' stick in or if they do only the very tip of the hook rests on the material.

Best to use a pair of pliers to close the barbed bits.

Then if you foul hook your dinghy you can take the hook out without ripping a large hole.

Hook hole will stay inflated overnight, tear will collapse in a few seconds

Don't think you're going to sink if you do pierce the tube as the tube should be in 4 or 5 separate compartments, just for that reason

Depends how much you inflate it! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Seriously tho' inflatables are not that thick, only 1-1.5mm ish.

Just take care. Rods are unlikely to be a problem as you can hook the hook over the reel guard untill ready to use it. Mackerel feathers on a "kite reel" frame may be more of a problem, but the hooks can be tucked safely away until needed. However, pulling 3-4 angry Mackerel aboard with another 3 spare hooks flying around may be exciting. I tend to remove the fish one at a time as I coil the line & hooks. You do lose the odd fish, but I prefer that to hooks in all & sundry.

Hooks may damage and puncture the tubes ... of course, but you ought to be a bit careful.... I have yet to puncture one.... and I have done fishing in Avons', Zodiacs etc., for more than 20 years... best to use rod though...

Most Ribs & Inflatables does have a rubber strake at the most exposed part, and this protects the rather slippery material somewhat..
