I have my Beneteau423 advertised on YBW boats for sale and sent off details only to get this strange email back. Am I right in assuming it is fishing?

Thanks for your response and How are you today? I would love you to go through this purchase document and get back to me A.S.A.PIt's a private document so you might need to login through your e-mail. Youcan copy and paste this link http://myprivatemessages.mymilitz.com/ into your browser to login to view. our e-mail has been authenticated with the secured link so you need to login with your valid email address for the sake of confidentiality. Thanks and RegardsAngie

I'd tell 'em to go ***k themselves with a response like that. "Log in with your email..."??? WTF???

I've no idea what the scam is, but they arent buying a boat!!

Hi,

I got one too, from Angie Cole [angiecole346@outlook.com]. So thanks for posting.

I have replied to her asking her to come and visit the boat at Maldon, Essex before we discuss terms.

The mymilitz domain seems to be hosted at Bitcoin near Washington in the States. So this looks highly dodgy to me.

I wonder how many others have received this?

I will post any replies from Angie Cole, but I doubt that we'll see anything of her.

Regards

Adrian

It's simply phishing, trying to get you to put in email information so they can access your email account. There is no scam/virus/malware.

Well that's all right then. :encouragement:
But personally I just won't click on anything that doesn't look right even if I'm curious. Safer that way.

And another?

This morning I got this:
Message from tednovakowski001@gmail.com:
Hello Seller,
My name is Ted Novakowski i want to make an enquiry if this listing is still avaliable.
I will like to arrange for a viewing. Please get back to me as soon as possible.
Thank you.
Regards
Ted Novakowski

So I replied inviting him to visit and got this reply:
Dear Adrian,

Thank you for getting back to me, i really appreciate that, my client want something similar to his previous boat.

Well that looks really suspicious too. Why is he sending me a specification when I have shown him the details on my website www.ayli.co.uk ? Why is someone from Connecticut interested in a boat in the UK. And why is he using a gmail account when he has an email at soundyachting?

I will be emailing Ted at soundyachting but my money is on this being a phishing attempt or a trojan.

Did anybody else get one of these?

Regards

Adrian

Not seen one like yours before, but as you suspect an extremely dodgy one.
As I am sure you know, opening a .zip file is one of the quickest ways to get something very bad onto your PC (and increasingly I suspect will be designed to attack other mobile devices also) - and via this route anywhere they want to go next

Why even bother to reply? Just mark it as spam and move on.

I replied to the original enquiry, when there was no clue that may be phoney.

I emailed the real guy he was impersonating to let him know his name was being taken in vain, for which I got a thank you.

Had exactly the same enquiry, same wording - and the same response when I replied to him.

Anyone selling high-value moveable items on the web should expect to get calls from scammers. Just delete it.

So that's another to ignore. Of 4 enquiries to the advert 3 have been phishing trips.
