Fishermans Missions closing

Looks like all their centres are closing - 2 in Devon & Cornwall and the rest in scotland.

The Fishermen's Mission is to close five centres in Scotland and replace them with new modern facilities. Existing buildings in Peterhead, Fraserburgh, Scrabster, Mallaig and Eyemouth will shut within five years. The mission, which provides support, refuge and pastoral care to seafarers, said they were too expensive to maintain. The organisation said the savings would also allow new centres to be opened in Campbeltown, Pittenweem and Oban.

Five centres to be updated, three new ones to be opened. How is this bad news, exactly?

I think you'll find, if you read the post, that I merely commented on it being a sign of the times.

Looks like all their centres are closing ... A sign of the times I guess. :(

If they are not actually closing, is it a sign of anything? Except that the god botherers would seem to be flush with cash.

Don't knock the RNMDSF--it is the one "god- bothering"outfit that seems to me to have a truly "christian " attitude. They don't care who you are if you need help, and don't ram their faith down your throat while helping.

I totally agree, had some good times in missions around the world, always there when you need them and not sally army types!

Actually, the Sally Ann are amongst the first responders to pretty much any disaster in the world. I recall seeing images of early responders to Hurricane Katrina - with a clear picture of a Sally Ann van providing refreshments to the responders in the background! And they too believe in practical evangelism; they don't preach at those they are helping. But their role is usually to support the emergency workers through providing refreshments, counselling services and so on, so they don't get as high a profile. They also provide non-judgemental services to "street people" everywhere.

Well said Paul. As a kid (I know eons ago) I used to go to some Sally Ann things and do not remember having anything other than buns rammed down my throat.
