Does anyon have a 5000i Generator? Is so do you know how I can turn the starter without the engine starting .
Stop is electronic and on the starter button so it can't be held in .
I don't want to turn fuel off
Thanks

If you really really want to do this:-
From memory the starter motor is solenoid engaged, so if you really want to run the starter motor and not start the engine, disconnect the small solenoid start connection, then bridge the solenoid start connection to the big 12v battery connection on the starter solenoid with a big screwdriver.

However before you do this, why do you want to do it? Its probably not a good idea.

My 4000 had a decompression lever .
I used this a few times to turn the impeller and fit new belts .

Alternatively I remember pulling the temp guard wires off on the exhaust manifold, I think that kills the fuel pump ? Either way it did not fire up .
But did when reconnecting it as usual .

No not a good idea to bridge it out .
Why I want to do this is because .
I want to do a drop test on the lead and connection to find which one causing me a voltages lost .
To do this , I need to have the gen turning over for a few seconds without it starting .
yes I can just replace all the leads but there are long lead and disappear under seal part of the boat ,
plus then there the cost , when all that's may Be needed is small repair on a connection.
Turn off the fuel won't help as the electronic part of the Gen will recognize there no fuel and stop it from turning in a second .

You could loosen the fuel injection pipe at the fuel injector - it definitely won't start then.
If you "jump" the starter motor it might actually run depending on the design of the engine stop valve.
have you tried bridging any battery cut off switches or similar first. The big cables are usually OK if they look OK.

Thanks again for more suggestions.
Loosen fuel pipe won't work , the electronic senser will just shut the engineer off , try shutting of the fuel , same happened .
Any power to the starter motor just disconnect the stop valve so the engine runs ,
Bloody electronic engines ,

sorry not sure if you understood me.
loosen the nut that holds the metal fuel injection pipe at the fuel injector. Don't touch the other fuel pipes.
The electronics will not know that has happened. The engine will turn on the start button, but it will be impossible for it to run.
