Don't believe all you read on here....

See I think Harwich is a dump, but then I've mislaid my Rose Coloured Glasses

My boat is based at Shotley and i think the marina is the best in the area, but i'm happy to motor across the Stour to dine at the Alma.

If breakfast is required the cafe in Ha'penny pier used to do a good one, not been there for a while though, anyone else ?

We ate at H'Penny pier cafe last year and it was excellent also the showers are first class.
Don't go there if the wind has any brisk N or NW in it.

OK, you've all sold me on Ha'Penny Pier :)

Especially as it makes my early departure on Sunday easier, I just hope I can get space there?

But why oh Why has the predicted wind decided to be on the nose on both days? W / NW on Saturday, E / NE on Sunday.. should I just stay in bed ? LOL

Seriously thinking I'd better make sure I have lots of fuel on board!

It's an East Coast thing - the wind always changes to frustrate the best-laid plans. By way of consolation, you could reflect on the fact that forecasters don't really have a clue what's going to happen until about 5 or 6 hours before it happens, so it might still work out in your favour.

Excuse me for being green, but what is the situation with clubs? Can I just turn up for a visit or do I need to be a member of an affiliated club?

Allow me to recommend my own club; the one with its own marina and a new clubhouse just round the corner from Pin Mill; go on the hammerhead, ask which berths are free, and stroll across the lawn to the clubhouse for dinner. Yes you would have to leave early in the morning but a sail downriver in the dawn is rather good fun!
